Biography
Urushibara Mokuchū (1888-1953) was a Japanese artist best known for his woodblock prints, or *moku hanga*. He was particularly renowned for his expressive depictions of horses, as seen in these two prints. Mokuchū's style, characterized by bold lines and simplified forms, reflected his deep interest in the *sumi-e* ink painting tradition, which can be seen in the minimalist use of black ink on a light background. His works capture the dynamism and power of the horse in a way that is both elegant and evocative.
