Biography
Umehara Ryuzaburo (March 9, 1888 - January 16, 1986) was a Japanese painter and founder of the art movement, “The Fūga Group” (lit. "The Fugue Group"). Born in Kyoto, Umehara is known for his stylized, expressive landscapes and figurative work. His paintings are characterized by bold colors, dynamic brushstrokes, and a unique blend of Western and Eastern aesthetics. He traveled to Europe in his youth, which deeply influenced his artistic style. His artwork has been exhibited worldwide, and he is considered one of the most important figures in the history of modern Japanese painting.
