Biography
Toshinaga was a Japanese metalworker who specialized in the creation of tsuba, the decorative guard on the hilt of a Japanese sword. This example is made of iron and features three stylized, rounded fish, forming a circle with a central opening. The tsuba is signed "Toshinaga," indicating its maker. Tsuba like this were highly valued and were seen as a status symbol for their owners.
