Biography
Thomas Chippendale (1718-1779) was an English furniture designer and cabinetmaker who is best known for his eponymous style of furniture. The Chippendale style was characterized by its use of intricate carvings, elegant proportions, and a wide range of decorative motifs, including Rococo, Gothic, and Chinese influences. Chippendale published his designs in "The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director" which became an important reference work for furniture makers throughout the 18th century. His work is still highly sought-after today for its quality and beauty.
