Biography
Simon Hackett (1620-1664) was a goldsmith and enameller who specialized in intricate, highly decorative enamelwork. His pieces, like this watch case, often feature intricate floral patterns in vibrant colors on a dark blue background. Hackett’s use of champlevé enameling – where the enamel is applied to hollowed-out areas of the metal – created a rich texture and depth to his work. His signature style was sought after by wealthy patrons and continues to be admired for its artistry and meticulous craftsmanship.
