Sherburne Wesley Burnham (1838-1921) was an American astronomer known for his pioneering work in astrophotography. Born in Thetford, Vermont, he later moved to Chicago where he dedicated his life to documenting celestial events. His photographs of the total solar eclipse of December 22, 1889, from the Lick Observatory in California, stand out as significant contributions to the field.
