Biography
Sadler and Green were a British pottery partnership known for producing transfer-printed earthenware. They worked from 1758 until 1777 and specialized in depicting contemporary scenes, often with historical and political significance. Their works, such as the "General Washington" plate and the "Couple in a Garden" tile, are characterized by their use of black and white transfer printing on a white background. This technique involved transferring an image onto the ceramic surface using a printed paper design. The work of Sadler and Green significantly influenced the development of transfer printing, which became a widely popular technique for decorating ceramics.
