Biography
Robert van den Hoecke (1622-1668) was a Dutch artist known for his detailed etchings of landscapes, cityscapes, and scenes of daily life. He was a master of depicting light and shadow, as seen in his work "The Village of Wynendaele." The etching shows a charming village scene with buildings, people, and animals, and the detailed perspective gives the viewer a glimpse into rural life in 17th-century Netherlands. The artist's use of hatching and cross-hatching creates depth and texture, giving the image a sense of realism.
