Biography

Reinier Nooms, better known as "Romeyn de Hooghe", was a Dutch Golden Age printmaker and draughtsman (1621-1664). He is recognized for his detailed etchings, many of which depict scenes of daily life in Holland and maritime subjects. These works are characterized by their meticulous rendering of figures, ships, buildings, and landscapes, offering a glimpse into the bustling Dutch society of the 17th century. His subjects, including fishing boats, harbors, and maritime trade, showcase the importance of trade and seafaring during this era.
