Biography
Ralph Allen (1693 - 1764) was a prominent English businessman and philanthropist who is best known for his association with Alexander Pope. Allen sought the acquaintance of Pope after reading his letters and their friendship continued until Pope's death. Allen's legacy included a bequest to the hospital in Bath, and he is remembered as a generous patron of the arts.
