Biography
Philippus Velijn (1787-1836) was a Dutch engraver, born in Leiden and who died in Amsterdam. He is known for his portrait engravings and illustrations, often for books and periodicals. Velijn's work is characterized by its detailed and precise style, which captures the likeness of his subjects with great fidelity. He was a prolific artist who produced a large body of work, including a portrait of the Dutch poet and writer Robert Hendrik Arntzonius.
