Biography
Petrus Clouwet was a Flemish engraver, born and died in Antwerp, who was active in the 17th century. He is known for his engravings of religious subjects, as seen in his depiction of Christ carrying the cross, but also his depictions of historical scenes and allegories, such as the illustration for the "Topographia Historica Gallo-Brabantae" and the scene of the "De Profundis in Morte". His work is characterised by detailed lines and a high level of realism, showing the influence of his Baroque contemporaries.
