Biography
Olmec is a Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican civilization that flourished in present-day Mexico from 1600 to 400 BCE. The Olmec are considered the "mother culture" of Mesoamerica, influencing later civilizations like the Maya and Aztec. They are known for their monumental stone heads, jade figurines, and sophisticated art forms. Olmec art is characterized by a distinctive style featuring stylized human and animal figures, often with exaggerated features. Their sculptures, like the jade figurine, are frequently depicted in a kneeling posture and possess striking geometric patterns and symbolic imagery. The Olmec are credited with the development of writing, a complex calendar system, and advanced mathematics.
