Biography
Nicolas Bazin (1633-1710) was a French engraver known for his religious prints. He is perhaps best known for his engravings of paintings by other artists, including "The True Portrait of the Virgin Saint by St. Luke" and "St. Ignatius of Loyola Founder and Institute of the Society of Jesus," which depict religious figures with a high level of detail and emotional depth. Bazin's prints often feature a distinct use of line and shading, creating a sense of realism and gravitas.
