Biography
Max Beckmann was a German painter, printmaker, and draftsman known for his Expressionist style and depictions of the human condition. Born in Leipzig in 1884, Beckmann's art often reflects the turbulent times of the 20th century, particularly the horrors of World War I and the Nazi regime. His works are characterized by bold colors, distorted forms, and a sense of psychological intensity. Beckmann's paintings frequently feature figures, often depicted in isolated or ambiguous settings. Notably, he explored themes of alienation, loneliness, and the fragility of human existence. In addition to his paintings, Beckmann also created numerous prints, drawings, and self-portraits. He died in New York City in 1950.
