Maria (hertogin van Bourgondië)

Maria of Burgundy, Duchess of Burgundy (1457-1482), was a prominent figure in the late medieval period. Born in Brussels, she became Duchess of Burgundy upon her father's death in 1477. Her reign was marked by a series of challenges, including a war with France and the loss of several territories. Maria's coins, like the silver patard pictured, featured her heraldic symbol, the Burgundian cross, which can be seen on these medieval coins. Her untimely death at the age of 25, in Bruges, left a significant mark on European history.
