Biography
Leendert Overbeek was a Dutch landscape painter known for his detailed depictions of the Dutch countryside and cityscapes. Born in Haarlem in 1752, Overbeek's art often showcases the aftermath of fires and natural disasters, with scenes of ruined buildings and people going about their daily lives amidst the destruction. He also captured the peaceful beauty of Dutch landscapes, often featuring trees, fields, and rivers, and frequently incorporated figures into his compositions, adding a sense of human scale to his art. Overbeek's works, executed primarily in pen and ink and often enhanced with watercolor, are known for their meticulous detail and evocative portrayal of light and atmosphere. He died in his hometown in 1815.
