Biography
Konstantin Egorovich Makovsky was a Russian painter born in Moscow in 1839 and who died in Saint Petersburg in 1915. Known for his genre paintings and portraits, Makovsky’s work often depicted scenes of everyday life in Russia, particularly among the lower classes, with an emphasis on the rich textures and colors of traditional costumes. His works often capture the beauty and dignity of ordinary people, highlighting the vibrancy of Russian culture. Makovsky also travelled extensively, including to the Middle East, which inspired a series of evocative paintings depicting life in the region.
