Biography
Jozef Israëls (1824-1911) was a Dutch painter known for his realistic portrayals of everyday life, particularly the lives of the working class. His work is characterized by its use of soft, muted colors and a focus on light and shadow. The artist's paintings often depict scenes of poverty and hardship, but also moments of hope and resilience. Israëls was a pioneer of the Hague School, a group of Dutch artists who rejected the idealized romanticism of earlier art movements in favor of a more honest and naturalistic style.
