Biography
Johann Gottfried Schmidt was a German engraver who was born in Dresden in 1764 and died in Paris in 1803. He is known for his engraved portraits, such as those of Adam Fr. Ernst Jacobi, George Friedr. Goetz, and P. Villaume. Schmidt's engravings are characterized by their meticulous detail and realistic depiction of his subjects. He produced his engravings in the neoclassical style, which was popular in the late 18th century.
