Biography
Johann Carl Schleich was a German engraver born in Augsburg in 1759 and died in München in 1842. He is best known for his engraved portraits of prominent figures of his time, including religious leaders, politicians and military leaders. Schleich's prints are characterized by their meticulous detail and the realistic portrayal of his subjects, which often showcase the intricate details of their clothing and accessories. His work is an excellent example of the meticulous nature of 18th and 19th-century portrait engraving.
