Jean Berain (1640-1711) was a French designer known for his ornamental drawings, particularly those for furniture, silver, and theatrical sets. Berain's work is characterized by a combination of Baroque exuberance and classical restraint, reflected in the elaborate, often fantastical designs with stylized forms. His designs were hugely influential, inspiring generations of artists and craftspeople. His influence extended to the design of fabrics, tapestries, and even stage sets for operas and ballets.
