Biography
Jan Frans Pluys (1810-1873) was a Belgian painter born and died in Mechelen. He was known for his detailed and realistic paintings, especially his depictions of flowers. Pluys’ work was greatly admired by his contemporaries, who praised him for his technical skill and his ability to capture the beauty of nature. He is considered one of the most important representatives of the 19th-century Belgian flower painting movement. Pluys' meticulous attention to detail and his use of bright, vibrant colors are evident in his floral still lifes, which are still popular today.
