Biography
Jacobus Andreas Crescent (1768-1819) was a Dutch architectural draftsman known for his precise and detailed watercolors of historical buildings. His works, often depicting city gates and other urban structures, were popular in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Crescent's work, like these two watercolors of the Alkmaar gate, is characterized by a meticulous attention to detail and the use of light and shadow to create a sense of depth. He is known to have worked for various architectural projects during his life, but much of his work remains undocumented.
