Biography

Hubert Goltzius, a Dutch engraver and printmaker, was active in the 16th century. His work was celebrated for its precision and detail, often depicting historical scenes, portraits, and allegorical figures. His engravings, which he produced in large quantities, were influential on other artists of the time, and continue to be admired today for their technical skill and artistic merit. Some of his most notable works are engravings of ancient Roman coins, which were important for the study of Roman history, and engravings of contemporary events, such as the Siege of Leiden in 1574.
