Biography
Hishikawa Moronobu (1618-1694) is considered the founder of ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese woodblock printing that depicts the urban life of Edo (modern Tokyo). His work focused on beautiful women, actors, and scenes of daily life. Moronobu's prints, often characterized by their linear style and bold outlines, were highly influential and paved the way for the development of ukiyo-e as a major art form in Japan. His work is widely celebrated for its attention to detail and depiction of the fashion and social customs of his time.
