Biography
Hendrik I van Vianden was a Count of Vianden, a small region in the Ardennes region of modern-day Belgium, who died in 1267. He is known for his silver coins, which feature a portrait of the count on one side and a coat of arms on the other. The coins are considered to be early examples of portraiture in numismatics, with the count's face depicted in a realistic, even slightly idealized manner. These coins are a valuable artifact for studying the history of the Vianden region during the 13th century, as well as offering a fascinating glimpse into the development of portraiture in European art.
