Biography
Guillaume Benjamin Amand Duchenne (1806-1875) was a French neurologist who made pioneering contributions to the study of facial expressions. He used electrical stimulation to map the muscles responsible for different expressions, capturing his findings in the book "Mécanisme de la physionomie humaine." Duchenne's photographic studies of patients, often displaying exaggerated facial contortions, became iconic for their scientific and artistic impact. His work continues to influence the fields of psychology, art, and even animation.
