Gosta Adrian-Nilsson

Gosta Adrian-Nilsson (1884-1965) was a Swedish artist known for his distinctive style that blended Cubist and Expressionist influences. He was born in Lund, Sweden and later moved to Stockholm, where he became a leading figure in the Swedish art scene. Nilsson’s works are characterized by bold geometric forms, vibrant colors and dynamic compositions. He explored a range of subjects, from portraits to landscapes and sporting events, often incorporating a sense of movement and energy into his compositions. His works often featured a striking use of black lines and flat planes, giving them a graphic quality. One of his most famous works, “Self Portrait” (1916), is a powerful example of his Expressionist tendencies, with its angular forms and intense, expressive brushstrokes.
