Biography
Giulio Carpioni (1613-1678) was an Italian painter and draftsman known for his dynamic compositions, often characterized by the use of red chalk. His drawings, like the one depicting a scene with figures, demonstrate his skilled use of line and the energetic depiction of human bodies. He was active in Venice, and his works often feature religious themes, as seen in his etching depicting Saint Anthony of Padua with angels. Carpioni’s draftsmanship and skill in portraying dynamic poses influenced generations of artists.
