Biography
Gerard Allebé was a Dutch artist born in Amsterdam in 1849. He specialized in drawings that focused on the human form, with a particular emphasis on anatomical detail. His works, often executed in pencil or charcoal, captured the complexities of the human body with precision and sensitivity. Allebé’s work was often considered to be in the academic tradition, influenced by classical art. His drawings, such as studies of hands, heads, and full figures, are a testament to his dedication to anatomical accuracy and his exploration of the human form. He died at the young age of 29 while travelling to Batavia (present-day Jakarta, Indonesia).
