Biography
Fritz Leyde was a photographer known for his portraiture, as seen in these two examples. The images are in the style of a Victorian carte de visite, a popular format of the time, which is characterized by small, formal portrait prints that were often exchanged as calling cards. Leyde's work is characterized by its sharpness, detail, and the elegant compositions, which would have been ideal for the social conventions of the time.
