Biography
Fritz Glarner (1899-1972) was a Swiss-American abstract painter best known for his contributions to the development of Abstract-Geometric art. Born in Zurich, he emigrated to the United States in 1926 and began exploring non-representational forms in his paintings. Glarner's works, often characterized by a limited palette of primary colors and geometric shapes, are notable for their rigorous composition and sense of balance. His use of grids, rectangles, and other simple elements creates a sense of order and harmony, while the interplay of colors and textures adds visual interest and depth. Glarner's work has influenced a number of later abstract artists, and his legacy as a pioneer of abstract-geometric art continues to be recognized today.
