Biography
François Girardon (1628-1715) was a French sculptor known for his monumental works in marble and bronze. His style, rooted in Classicism, featured an emphasis on realism and elegance, exemplified in his portrait busts and allegorical figures. Girardon is perhaps best known for his work on the Tomb of Cardinal Richelieu and his equestrian statue of Louis XIV, marking him a central figure in the artistic scene of the French court during the reign of Louis XIV. His work is characterized by a refined and graceful approach to form, showcasing the ideals of the French Academy.
