Biography
Félix Edouard Vallotton (1865-1925) was a Swiss-French painter and printmaker. He is known for his bold black-and-white woodcuts, which often depicted scenes of everyday life with a sense of unease and psychological tension. Vallotton's work was influenced by the Symbolist movement and his use of stark contrasts and simplified forms created a powerful visual impact. His woodcuts often explored themes of isolation, alienation, and the darker aspects of human nature. He was a prolific artist and produced many important works including "La Modiste" (The Milliner), "L'Irreparable" (The Irreparable), and "La Santé de l'Autre" (The Health of the Other).
