Biography
Engelbertus Matthias Engelberts (1731-1807) was a Dutch draughtsman and painter known for his drawings and etchings. He was born in Noordlaren, Netherlands, and died in Hoorn, Netherlands. He is considered a minor master of the Dutch Golden Age whose work is often reminiscent of Dutch Renaissance and Baroque masters. He is known for his skillful depictions of figures, often with a focus on their facial expressions and gestures, as well as his detailed renditions of landscapes and architecture. Engelberts' drawings are often characterized by their delicate lines, subtle shading, and elegant compositions. He is known for his numerous studies of heads, full-length portraits, and genre scenes, often with a focus on everyday life.
