Emma Amos

Emma Amos (1937-2020) was an American painter, printmaker, and fiber artist whose work explored issues of race, gender, and identity. Her mixed-media works, often featuring bold colors and patterned fabrics, often incorporate personal narratives and social commentary. Amos’s work often depicted Black women in everyday settings and used her own experiences to challenge traditional representations of beauty and power. She was a member of the Black Arts Movement and a leading voice in the feminist art movement.
