Elise Donaldson (1887-1980) was an American printmaker known for her black and white woodcuts and drawings that depicted scenes of everyday life. Often her work, like "Ironing" and "Sunday Night at the Rink", showcased people of color in a manner that was unusual for the time period. Her work also often captured the anxieties of modern society, as seen in the work "Capricious Conversations". Donaldson's prints were bold and graphic, with strong lines and bold patterns. The imagery in her work helped to challenge societal expectations and offer a unique perspective on the American experience.
