Biography
Daniele da Volterra, also known as Daniele Ricciarelli, was an Italian Mannerist painter and sculptor born in Volterra, Italy in 1509, and died in Rome in 1566. Known for his masterful drawings and sculptures, Volterra was a student of Michelangelo, and his work reflects the influence of his teacher's style in the use of anatomical precision and dramatic composition. His drawings, like the studies of draped figures shown here, are notable for their meticulous attention to detail and expressive lines, demonstrating Volterra's exceptional skill in capturing the human form.
