Biography
Coenraet van Wildenbergh was a Dutch engraver who is known for his print of the Amsterdam City Hall, a depiction of the building's burning down. This print was created after a fire destroyed the building on July 7th, 1652. The print, titled "Afbeelding van het oude Stadthuys tot Amsterdam verbrant op den 7 Juli 1652", shows the burning building with a caption that reads "Thus the fire consumed my wig and pulled my face down, but after my ruin, I am once again the wonder of the world." The print reflects a sense of loss but also of resilience, highlighting the building's historical importance to the city of Amsterdam.
