Christian Edvard Fortling (1809-1875) was a Danish painter who specialised in portraits. Born and raised in Copenhagen, he is known for his realistic and detailed portraits of prominent figures of his time. His work often captures the sitter's character and social standing, and he is admired for his mastery of light and shadow. One of his most famous pieces is the portrait of Bishop J.P.
