Biography
Chaim Soutine (1893 - 1943) was a Russian-born Expressionist painter who is known for his visceral and emotional style. His paintings, often of slaughtered animals, figures, and landscapes, are characterized by thick, impasto brushstrokes and distorted forms. He was part of the School of Paris, which was a group of artists who lived and worked in Paris during the early 20th century. Soutine's work is often compared to that of other Expressionist painters like Van Gogh and Munch, but he developed a unique style that reflected his own personal anxieties and experiences.
