Biography
C. Foote was an American silversmith who produced this intricate, heart-shaped pendant. The object, likely a Masonic emblem, is decorated with a compass and square at the top, an all-seeing eye centered in the pendant, and elaborate floral motifs. The inscription, "Rockwood No. De. For. Jerusalem Chapter, Bridgeport (Conn) June 8th 1826," reveals the pendant's origin and date of creation. Foote’s work is a testament to the skill and artistry of early American silversmiths, and his pieces provide a glimpse into the visual culture and symbolism of the 19th century.
