Biography
Anton Mauve (1838-1888) was a Dutch painter known for his landscapes and animal subjects, particularly sheep. Born in Zaandam, Netherlands, he is considered a member of the Hague School, a group of artists who focused on realism and naturalism in their artwork. Mauve’s landscapes, often depicting rural scenes, are characterized by their atmospheric quality and delicate use of light. The influence of French Barbizon School painters is evident in his work, particularly in his attention to the depiction of nature and the use of soft, muted tones.
