Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson (January 5, 1767 – December 9, 1824) was a French painter known for his neoclassical style. His works often depicted scenes from classical mythology and literature, drawing inspiration from the ancient world. While his early career saw success with portraits and historical paintings, Girodet's signature style solidified with the "The Sleep of Endymion" (1791), a painting that showcased his signature use of color, light, and dramatic composition. He was a significant figure in the transition from the Neoclassical to the Romantic era in French art.
