Biography
Alphonse Marie van den Braak was a Dutch painter and illustrator known for his genre scenes. He was born in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1851 and died in Den Haag in 1894. His works often depict daily life in the Netherlands, often with a focus on the working class. Van den Braak's paintings are characterized by their realistic details, warm color palette, and sentimental tone. Some of his most popular subjects include mothers and children, interiors, and landscapes. He produced illustrations for a variety of publications, including the popular Dutch magazine, De Katholieke Illustratie, showcasing the life of common folk in the 19th century.
