Biography
Adriaen van Ostade (1610-1684) was a Dutch Golden Age painter known for his genre paintings depicting peasant life. He was a student of Frans Hals and his work often portrays scenes of everyday life, such as tavern brawls, interiors of peasant cottages, and outdoor markets. His paintings are characterized by their rich, dark colors, meticulous detail, and often humorous, yet often poignant observation of human nature. Ostade's work is highly regarded for its realism and insights into the lives of ordinary people during the Dutch Golden Age.
