Creatures of Myth and Imagination

Creatures of Myth and Imagination: Europe and the Americas explores the enduring power of fantastical beings across cultures and centuries. Bringing together more than 50 works from 500 to 1500 CE, including sculpture, textiles, ceramics, paintings and metalwork, the exhibition examines how hybrid creatures have expressed ideas about identity, transformation, power and the unknown. Presented at The Met Cloisters, it reveals how artists across Europe and the Americas used mythical figures to explore shared human questions and the boundaries between the natural and supernatural worlds.
