Exhibition Overview
About the exhibition
Architects of Liberation: Modernism in Western Africa explores the transformative role of architecture during Africa’s era of independence and decolonisation. Focusing on Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria and Cameroon, the exhibition reveals how modern architecture became a symbol of progress, Pan-African identity and national renewal. Featuring architectural drawings, models, archival material, photography and film, including many works shown publicly for the first time, it examines how architects shaped new visions of the future across a changing continent.
