Exhibition Overview

About the exhibition

Richard Dadd (1817–1886) created some of the most distinctive works in British art, drawing on literature, folklore and memory to imagine richly detailed fantastical worlds. Best known for his fairy paintings, Dadd produced many of his most celebrated works while a patient in Victorian psychiatric hospitals following a mental health crisis. Featuring more than 100 paintings and works on paper, this exhibition explores his remarkable life, artistic legacy and enduring influence on generations of artists, writers and musicians.
